Leave WELL enough alone .....

We were speeding along and I noticed an interesting arrangement of posts on the side of the road. As the official navigator for the trip I asked the captain to turn the ship around. We did a one point turn and made it back no problems even into a stiff breeze. The well is about 1.8 m deep and at the top lined with the local stone, the bottom 1.2 m is a shaft into solid rock. I descended down the shaft bridging to the bottom being careful not to put any pressure on the leaf litter covering the base. It was very moist and relatively solid even though I didn't place my full weight on the base.
